The card reader for this show

Help centre · In your shop

The machine that takes card payments at the booth. Optional. Without one, a card sale is still recorded against the show and still counts in the takings — you key the amount into your own machine and tell the phone it was paid. With one, the phone starts the payment and the reader asks the customer to tap.

Reader for this show

Pick one of your readers, or None — key the amount in by hand. Every phone connected to the show uses the same reader; it belongs to the show, not to a phone.

Normally you keep a spare for shows so the counter keeps its own. But you can take a till's reader: pick one that lives on a till and it comes off that till for the show and goes back by itself when you close. Nobody has to remember to put it back, and the shop is never left thinking it has a reader that is in your car.

The dropdown says — in use on [till] beside any reader that is currently on a till, so you know what you are about to borrow.

Pair a new reader

For a second reader bought to take with you. Put the reader into pairing mode, type the pairing code shown on the reader, give it a name, and press Pair it. It is registered with SumUp and assigned to this show straight away — there is no second step.

Name it for what it is rather than where it is — "Show reader" outlives one weekend. Left blank it is named after this show.

This section only appears once your SumUp details are saved. Until then the tab points you at Card payments on the main Trade shows page, whose Set up card payments button opens the page where the account is entered.

A closed show will not take a reader change. Closing a show releases its reader anyway — back to its till if it came from one, otherwise unassigned.
