Passkeys
A passkey lets you sign in to your shop's admin with Face ID, a fingerprint, or your phone, instead of typing your email and password. Your password keeps working, so a passkey is simply the quicker way in.
Adding one
Sign in as normal, open Passkeys at the bottom of the menu, give the device a name you'll recognise (My iPhone, Office laptop) and press Add a passkey. Your browser or phone asks you to confirm with your face, fingerprint or screen lock, and that's it. Next time, press Use a passkey on the sign-in page.
- You can add several: one on your phone and one on your computer, for example.
- A passkey is yours alone. Every member of staff adds their own from their own account, and the passkey signs in as whoever added it.
- On a computer without a fingerprint reader, your browser will offer to use your phone instead by showing a QR code to scan.
Shared computers
When several staff add passkeys on the same computer, the sign-in prompt lists each by email so everyone picks their own. A passkey on a shared computer is only as private as that computer's lock. If everyone at the counter knows its PIN, anyone can use any passkey saved on it. For a shared till, a passkey on each person's own phone is the safer choice.
Your shop's web address
A passkey only works at the address it was added on. For a shop with its own domain, that is your domain; otherwise it is your setupshop.online address. If you connect, change or remove a custom domain, existing passkeys stop working. The list marks them old address. Remove them, sign in with your password and add new ones.
Removing one
Press Remove next to it and it stops working straight away. An owner or manager can remove all of a staff member's passkeys from the Staff page, which is what to do if a phone is lost.
